A Year of Ten Months: How the Five Crowns Keep Time

October 5, 2026

The five provinces don't count to twelve. Their year runs ten months, and the names carry the sound of the places that gave them: Aeloria, Ignisar, Veytharion, Morvath, Tharavos, Deyricon, Sarion, Dravemir, Solaryn, Eiloria.

Three seasons share those ten months, and they aren't equal. Flamebloom gets the first two. Ashfall takes the next three. Deepfrost holds the last five, so anyone travelling the roads plans around ice for half the year.

The week runs eight days, not seven: Drakaday, Ezzaday, Aelinday, Myrthday, Caelday, Sorynday, Veynday, Thalday. A contract that says “by Veynday” means something very specific to a bard on a deadline.

I built the calendar before I built the plot, and I still catch myself counting on my fingers to ten.
